Culture Day Celebration In School, 2010

Culture Day Celebration and Art exhibition on Edo (Bini) Students Association Cultural day celebration on Campus. University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus, Benin City, Nigeria.
Each piece tells a story ...stories not entirely based on myth but on tradition and history of a kingdom (Benin Kingdom, Nigeria) almost shattered by contact with western civilization. It shows the relationship between the Edo speaking people of Nigeria with other tribes as well as the western world. The history runs through ancient civilization, to the first visit of the European (Portuguese in 1472) and later on with the British, through the era of slavery, subjugation, colonialism and to the present day.
These art works were on display, along with traditional music for the Binis, and all other students on campus, to dance to.  There were dance dramas, talks and presentations by invited guests, to mark the yearly students cultural day on campus by each ethnic groups that made up the students association.
